Reading Connections is seeking a dedicated volunteer to collaborate with our Sewing Instructor to provide extra support to adult literacy students learning to sew in preparation for employment. We are the largest community-based adult literacy agency in NC, providing free, individualized literacy services to adults in Guilford County who wish to improve their basic reading, writing, English language, math, and/or technology skills. As an ESOL English/Sewing Instructor, you have the opportunity to have a lasting impact on immigrants and refugees working to provide for themselves and their families here in Greensboro. Applicants should be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and comfortable working in a multicultural environment and communicating with people with limited English skills.    Direct Duties: Ensure appropriate direct instruction for adults using current curriculum Submit timely, accurate, and complete attendance reports as requested Identify appropriate instructional resources as needed Experience and Educational Requirements:    Knowledge of and/or experience teaching adults to sew is a plus, but not required Minimum of a high school diploma Willingness to coordinate with vocational trainer to ensure robust language instruction  Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to conduct effective group presentations  Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals Time Commitment: Monday-Thursday, 9 am-12 pm for six weeks, in-person at Industries of the Blind in Greensboro. February 13th, 2023 is the proposed start date for the program.
